Wait, let’s set the mood before you start reading…
If you’re already following on Instagram, you got early access to this recipe. How? Why? Because it’s so simple and the pictures came out too good to not immediately share!
The best part is that you can probably make it with things you already have in your pantry. You can even play around with the ratio of ingredients to make it a little spicier or more garlicky - whatever you like. We’re big fans of encouraging you to do things you like around here. Actually, aggressive mutual support is also an essential part of our friendship.
Also, it’s worth mentioning that after two hours of brainstorming a name for what is essentially a homemade dry rub, Megan deliriously blurted out “herky jerk” so we giggled and went with it! Plus, it’s a nod to her Jamaican roots despite not being *literal* jerk seasoning. Though if it’s authentic jerk seasoning the people want - let us know and we’ll put it on the list! 🇯🇲
And as the name claims, here’s how to make that at home along with some recommended uses:
Herky Jerk Spice
Ingredients:
3 tablespoons salt (shout out Maldon - love you so much)
3 tablespoons black pepper
2 tablespoons smoked paprika
2 tablespoons onion powder
1 tablespoon garlic powder
2 teaspoons chipotle chili powder
2 teaspoons ground coriander
Mix ‘em all up & store in an airtight container alongside the rest of your spices & seasonings.
Recommended Uses:
Sprinkle onto bacon & drizzle with maple syrup for an easy & delicious addition to breakfast
Put that bacon on a BLT (or come get a BKT at Spud’s!)
Rub down on ribs before smoking, homemade sausage patties before frying, or chicken before roasting
Slap that chicken into some tacos
Enhance flavor in your potato salad (don’t forget the fire roasted corn!)
